I’ve been thinking about how my body feels latel

I’ve been thinking about how my body feels lately. In my younger years I thought more about how it looked. Now, I’m interested in feeling strong and pain-free. I’m interested in is longevity. Maybe because it’s my birthday 🎉

At Phoenix we teach healthy movement, that if done FULLY 2-3 X a week, will make your body so strong! Pilates at PCP will work the muscles needed for longevity, so that you can add more good quality, vital years to your life.

I call them the “cave(wo)man muscles”. In modern life we’ve let these muscles go into a cave and take a nap! Cavemen and women hardly ever sat- and if they did, it was a squat position. There were no chairs or couches back then. They had to run and jump and climb and reach. They needed strong, supple muscles to run away from predators!

We all need very strong legs - hips, glutes, hip flexors, quads, hamstrings, calves. That’s #1. We also need strong core muscles - the transverse abdominals, the deepest layer for power and stabilization. Then the internal and external obliques for twisting movement. The rectus abdominis and hip flexors help us sit up quickly.

After we have a baseline of hip/leg/core strength, we’ll get into strengthening the upper body. First you have to be able to run away from the saber tooth tiger! If it’s taught properly, Pilates is a process and takes time to learn and absorb.

A- that Brandon is doing solid classical Pilates and is working on classical @gratz_pilates equipment, which is the best! So few studios in LA invest in this sturdy highest quality equipment. And B- that I’ve noticed so many more men in the studio lately. Pilates is really catching on with men! They see the benefits - the mobility in their joints, increased flexibility, balanced muscle tone and injury prevention.

The other day at the 8:00 hour, another female instructor and I looked at each other realizing we were outnumbered by men. There was just two of us and five guys in the studio. Wow things have changed!

I’m here for it. I’ll see you in the studio this week. I’ll be working off my chips and onion dip with you 😋
